Alessandra Nichols fashions herself after the millions of microorganisms and other critters who transform organic waste to soil--and considers herself in the lineage of artists who transform trash to art.

Fouth generation artist, womens peace/resistance camps veteran, tradeswoman (currently earthplaster installer), and designer of many fantastical sets, costumes, props and puppets for the people and with the people, she has worked with Cathy Weis, Jennifer Miller, Jenny Romaine, Crystal Field, Amy Trompetter.

Certified a Master Composter by the NYC Dept. of Sanitation, Nichols is often inspired to use what is available, and embodies her mantra: “How we can use what we have to invent what we need?"

Recently she completed more than 13 sculptures including several in the "Composting Sculptures" series at the Queens Botanical Garden for HIVE, a project with Clarinda MacLow.

Her other projects include Amy Trompetter’s "Barber of Seville," a puppet Opera, touring to Vienna in March 2007; and Grethe Holby’s "Animal Tales," written by George Plimpton, which premiers at Montclair University in April 2007.
